First settled in the mid 19th century, Kanab is located in southern Utah, on the western Colorado Plateau at an elevation of over 4,900 feet above sea level.
Kanab is positioned strategically on the famous tourist 'national park loop' that includes Zion, Bryce, and the Grand Canyon. It is only 45 minutes from Zion and an hour from Lake Powell.
The rugged scenery of the Kanab area has been the chosen by many film producers to represent the classic old west, earning Kanab the nickname Utah's Little Hollywood. John Wayne's 60's classic El Dorado was filed in Kanab and numerous other films were shot in the area, including newer ones such as Broken Arrow, Maverick and the re-make of the Planet of the Apes.
Hotels and motels in Kanab cater mainly to travelers and offer a great rest stop while touring the area's natural wonders.
