The focal point of Downtown Salt Lake City is the Temple Square, with the architecturally magnificent Mormon Temple as the centerpiece.
The temple, open only to Mormons and the Tabernacle, where visitors are welcome to attend Thursday evening rehearsals of the renowned Tabernacle Choir are considered a must visit.
Other Mormon points of interest include the Brigham Young Historic Park, the Family History Library, the world's largest repository of genealogical records and the Deuel Log Home, built in 1847.
Also located in the downtown area are the Capitol Hill, that stands right above temple square, the campus of the University of Utah, the Salt Palace Convention Center and the Delta Center, home of the Utah Jazz NBA team.
Most of the hotels in downtown Salt Lake City are located within walking distance of Temple Square and other major local attractions.
